Online Pet Meds...the good, the bad, and the ugly

We can customize your online pharmacy experience. Our veterinary exclusive online pharmacy Vet Store Rx is priced competively with other internet pharmacies. The key difference is VET STORE RX offers the same quality and guarantee you receive when purchasing products directly from your veterinary clinic. This is a great way to save money and have the convenience of your product(s) being delivered straight to your front door. This is a great alternative for the 1-800-Pet Meds users or other internet pharmacies that may not buy products directly from the manufactures or that are improperly licensed. Im sure we have all either seen or heard about the horror stories of basement laboratories where products  are being improperly made, packaged, shipped and or stored. Many of these products are shipped from overseas, so the product packaging is unfamiliar to the pet owner and sometimes not even in english! Usually if something sounds "to good to be true" it probably is so  BUYER BEWARE!

So WHAT DOES that mean to you as a consumer??
When the internet pharmacy purchases the product from the manufacturer, not only can you have the confidence that the product is indeed what you intended to purchase, but also if you ever have any problems with the product or it fails to do what it is labeled to do, you have recourse to hold the company accountable.
Think about it...Although it is not often, say you are using a monthly heartworm prevention and at the annual check up, your dog is tested for hearworms and the results come up positive. If you have been buying your products from your veterinarian or from an approved  internet pharmacy (such as Vet Store) the company will stand behind their product and pay for the treatment necessary to rid your dog of those harmful and possibly fatal heartworms. If you have been using other internet pharmacies...your basically out of luck. You were being a responsible pet owner and all the money that you invested in preventatives was just flushed down the drain, not to mention the additional cost of heartworm treatment which can range from $500-$1000. OUCH!

So now that we offer you a way to save you money with the convenience of home delivery, why would you use anything else?
Vet Store Rx not only offers monthly heartworm/flea & Tick preventions but they also carry a wide range of other products for your pets needs!

SO...

What does the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) say about it?
Some internet sites that sell pet drugs represent legitimate and reputable pharmacies, but others are fronts for unscrupulous businesses operating against the law. FDA had found companies that sell unapproved pet drugs and counterfeit products, make fraudulent claims, dispense prescription drugs without prescriptions and sell expired drugs. Pet Owners who have purchased drugs from these companies may think they are saving money, but in reality they may be short changing their pet's health and putting its life at risk.

When Ordering Online The FDA Recommends TO:

1)Order from an outsourced prescription management service that your veterinarian provides. (VetStore Rx)

2)Order from a web-site that belongs to a VIPPS-accredited pharmacy

The VIPPS (The Verified Internet Pharmacies Practice Sites) is a voluntary certification program of the national Association of Boards of Pharmacy (NABP) The NABP gives the VIPPS seal to online pharmacies that comply with stringent licensing and inspection requirements. Only pharamacies that sell human drugs are certified at this time, but veterinarian will occasionally use human drugs when there is not an animal drug approved for the pets illness.

RED FLAGS

Some Foreign Internet Pharmacies advertise that veterinary prescription drugs are available to U.S. citizens without a prescription. There is a risk of the drugs not being FDA approved.
A foreign or domestic pharmacy may claim that one of it's veterinarians on staff will "evaluate" the pet after looking over a form filled out by the pet owner, and then prescribe the drug. "A Veterinarian should physically examine the an animal prior to making a diagnosis to determine the appropriate therapy.
The CVM (who regulates manufacturers and distributors of animal drugs) is especially concerned that pet owners are going online to buy two types of commonly used prescription veterinary drugs, NSAID'S (Nonsteriodal anti-inflammatory drugs) & heartworm preventatives.
"Both drugs can be dangerous if there is no professional involvement." IF there is no veterinary-client-patient relationship, this is a very dangerous practice.

Nsaids should not be purchased on the internet without a Veterinarians involvement because:
-dogs should undergo blood testing and a thorough physical examination before starting NSAIDS
-Dogs should be monitored by a veterinarian while taking NSAIDS
-Veterinarian should discuss possible side effects of NSAIDS with the owner.
-the prescription should be accompanied with a client information sheet explaining the important safety information.

Heartworm disease is a potentially fatal condition transmitted by a mosquito that is carrying infected larvae of the heartworm parasite. Dogs, cats and ferrets can get heartworm.
The American Heartworm Society Recommends:
-Using Heartworm Medication year round no matter where you live in the United States.
-Getting Dogs tested yearly to make sure they are not infected with heartworms.

(If a heartworm positive dog is given a heartworm preventative, if could cause severe interactions with that pet, and possibly even death!)
